Simon “Deano” Dean has been a cornerstone of the Keble College kitchen for over 30 years. Starting as a kitchen assistant at St Anthony’s College, Simon joined Keble and steadily worked his way up the ranks. His hard work, determination, and passion for food have earned him a strong reputation among colleagues. Known for his dedication and commitment, Simon is proud of his career at Keble, which he considers more than just a workplace.
Throughout his time at Keble, Simon has refined his culinary skills and taken on more responsibility in the kitchen. His proudest moment came when he played a key role in helping Keble College win the prestigious Bailliage de Grande Bretagne CHAINE DES ROTISSEURS Award for Excellence. This achievement reflects his passion for teamwork and culinary excellence. Simon credits the support of his colleagues and the College for offering him the chance to grow both as a chef and in his role within the kitchen.
Outside of work, Simon balances his professional life with his personal interests. He enjoys fishing for barbel on the River Thames, flyfishing for carp in the sun and the thrill of motorcycles. He’s proud of the moments spent fishing with his sons and going on pushbike rides. But at the heart of it all, Simon’s passion remains his work at Keble.
“Keble College has been a huge part of my life. It’s helped me grow, not just as a chef, but as a person. I’m especially proud of playing a role in winning the Bailliage de Grande Bretagne CHAINE DES ROTISSEURS Award for Excellence. Over the years, the College has encouraged me to improve and really develop as a chef, and I’m grateful for that. Keble is like a second family and second home to me.”
